I'd been staying at home too much lately. My friends wanted me to go out, and try to enjoy life more. But brooding was the only thing that made sense to me.
It seems that everyone can get over a broken heart, much faster than I could. You see, my boyfriend had left me. He didn't even realize that Halloween was my favorite holiday, and without him, I couldn't bring myself to celebrate.
The door opening abruptly broke me out of my stupor.
"John, if you don't get off your ass and ready for this party, I'm going to call everyone and tell them it's here instead." Sam walked into my apartment wearing a shit-eating grin.
"And what makes you think I want to go?" I stared at him, not even cracking a smile at his antics.
"Like I said, we won't take no for an answer." He stood back and let the other stooges inside.
"Dude, you have to go. We already told everyone that you'd be there." Walt stood beside Sam with his hands on his hips. His costume wasn't original, but was funny for someone so short.
"Yeah, even Charlie was happy to hear that you were coming." Tabitha was the oddball in our little group of misfits. She usually kept her hair short, and it was a dead give away that she wasn't straight. But tonight, she was out of character, and dressed up as Little Bo Peep.
"And if I have to drive tonight, I want someone who can at least help navigate without confusing the hell out of me." Dan leaned against the doorframe, keeping his usual cool stance. If things had been different, it would've been us together. He wore an old trench coat, and a funny hat. I had no idea of what he was supposed to be.
"What a ragtag bunch of fugitives you guys are." I looked at their costumes, and had to smile.
"What don't you think a dyke can play Little Bo Peep?" Tabitha put one hand on her hip, and the other on the side of her head."And what's so funny about Van Helsing?" Dan pulled his coat open, to reveal some wooden stakes. I hope that they were plastic.
"Ok, and what about you?" I looked at Sam, and his dirty football jersey.
"It's simple ya goof. I'm a jock zombie." Sam put his arms and moved slow.
"Alright already. But I have no costume." I stood up and looked at them.
"That's okay, I brought something for you." Dan reached into his pocket and pulled out a pair of fake teeth.
"What?" I looked at his hand as he offered them to me.
"You can go as a vampire." Dan shrugged his shoulders, not knowing if I would accept them.
"Don't I have to wear something then?" I asked him as I took them and examined them.
"Na, you can just put on whatever. They only wear costumes in the movies." Dan began to blush as he watched me put them in.
"I hope these were clean." I chomped down on them, and they felt weird.
"Why worry about that now? Besides, I know you put things in your mouth that weren't." Tabitha grinned always the joker that girl.
I began to look around for something to match, or at least help with the costume.
"Just go as you are. Vampires wear normal clothing you know. Or have you forgotten that story already?" Sam seemed more than anxious to leave.
"Okay, I guess then, let's go." I looked at myself in the mirror, and figures what the hell. They weren't going to leave me alone anyway.
We all piled in the car like usual and headed across town. There was a radio broadcast on that said a strange meteor was going to pass earth tonight. Not so strange as the fact that the radio was on in the first place I guess.
I tried to enjoy the company of my friends and the fact that they were literally dragging me to a part I didn't want to attend.
But as we neared the address, I couldn't help but smile. Here we were, a vampire, a zombie, Van Helsing, and Little Bo Peep. What a mixture of ideas.
The music was the first thing to notice as we pulled down the right street. Not super loud, but it was definitely noticeable.
We all got out of the car, after parking almost a whole block past it. There was just no parking available.
Everyone was kind of thinking about their own things, when we arrived at the front door. I guess being a costume party I didn't even think about a tampon answering the door. The costumes I'm used to, are well, more toned down that what was here.
We split up almost immediately, which didn't bother me. They got me out, and that was all that could be expected.
I managed to find where the drinks were at, and grabbed a coke. I guess at least someone had to be sober to drive back. Might as well be me.
It's hard to socialize when most people around you are drinking and your not. But it was funny to watch people acting out due to the alcohol. Not to mention the costumes.
I guess the last party that I enjoyed myself at, didn't have nearly as many different things like this one. Trying to keep tabs on who was what, was a challenge in itself.
I guess I started to lose track of time, with all the people that were coming and going. I was curious as to who might be here, but with Fred and Barney kissing in the corner, that was a dead give away. Not to mention, Wilma and Betty were holding hands in the kitchen.
I guess it takes all kinds.
That's what was running through my mind, when Tarzan walked up to me. Then my thoughts changed right away. I have no idea who he was, but his loincloth didn't leave much to the imagination. He had to be chilly in that get-up, because he wasn't wearing anything underneath it.
I just started drooling all over myself, when his other half came and got him. I wonder if she knows exactly how lucky she is.
I was getting almost bored when someone pointed out the window. I guess it was the surprise meteor making its debut. The interesting thing, was that it seemed huge for passing so far away from earth.
I guess I stared at it too long. Someone bumped into me. I looked to find what appeared to be Sam. But his face, seemed to be decaying. He moved like his body wasn't his own.
"uhhhnnn... aaahhh" The sounds coming out his mouth were unnatural.
I backed away from whoever this creep was, his makeup was astounding.
I turned to Tabitha, or what was a smaller version of her. She had the same eyes, but was smaller and younger.
What was happening here?
My gums started to itch. The sounds in the room, became crystal clear, then too loud. My body started heating up, then become ice cold. I collapsed to my knees, as the pain intensified.
With my hands over my ears, and tears escaping my eyes, I couldn't even think straight.
Then, nothing. No sounds, I couldn't even feel any movement around me. What is happening!
I opened my eyes to see weird things. A monster tampon walked by, followed by some cavemen and women. Not to mention some cowboys chasing some Indians. What was happening here?
There was a scent that attracted me. It was Tarzan. He was no longer standing up, but crouched down on all fours. It wasn't that he was cute, but the blood running through his veins. I could see them, pulsing with life.
I started to cross the room to get closer to that heavenly smell of blood.
A sharp pain went through my middle. I looked down to see a piece of wood sticking out.
"I told you I'd get you!" It was Van Helsing smiling at me.
I couldn't speak, the stake went through my heart and the pain was unbearable.
"This is the last time you stalk anybody living. Have a dead afterlife." His words sunk as deep as the stake.
